Review: LG CU500

I am a proud owner of this beautiful phone. My first new phone in 2 years, in fact, because it was the first to really turn on my crave meter in that time. It first caught my eye at a Cingular store, but they were asking some outrageous price for it, and those who know me also know that I refuse to pay top-dollar for technology when I KNOW that I can get it cheaper, somehow, somewhere. And, as usual, my gadget self-control paid off, and good ol' Wal-Mart had a sale a few weeks before Christmas: $50 bucks with a 2-year contract. Sold.

The first thing I love is the Bluetooth. "Sure, that's great, but most phones have Bluetooth", you say? Well, my previous phone did not, so it's new to me. ;-) The hassle I used to experience with my previous phone, and my data cable, and the software.... I shudder at the memory of the frustration. Thankfully, no more. I have gone wireless, and can customize my phone to my heart's content... free of charge... and hassle.

The second thing I love about this gorgeous phone is the speaker volume. I rarely used my previous cell phone because I could never hear a thing anyone said to me. I thought I was going deaf. I was so happy to find out that it wasn't me! I can actually have the window down in my car while talking on the phone! (Yes, I have a tendency to get amused easily)

Other things I enjoy and appreciate in this new phone, but won't go into great detail about are:

The 3G capability. Sadly, I do not live in an area where I'm actually IN a 3G capable zone, but a friend of mine lives in one, and I see her often, so it will get used.

The built-in MP3 player with controls on the front. I'm not as excited about this feature as I thought I would be. Reason being: the amount of factory memory sucks. 15 Mb, I think. That's not nearly enough for the things that I've already learned to do with it. (Like put full-length movies on it, hehehe) It does take Micro SD cards, but those f'n things are kind of expensive, you know? And I love gadgets, but man, I'm cheap. lol

The ability to take videos. Like I said, this isn't exactly new technology, but it's new to me!

But this phone isn't perfect. The one feature I think they really could've put into this phone with no problem is voice-dialing technology. I mean seriously! It has a damn voice recorder already! Would it have really been that hard to "turn on" the voice-dialing feature! I highly doubt it. But, alas, I really love this phone, so I am completely prepared to live without.

I love my blog. It's an easy way to share my interests with the world. However, there are some things you just don't want to broadcast to the public. So, for those who like to keep a diary or journal and don't want to let the juicy details of your life become a matter of public record, there's Advanced Diary. I found this program last night and I absolutely love it. It's completely free, and works great. I used to keep my journal with Word, but it just became too much of a hassle. This program has a lot of cool features. It can automatically save your work every so often, you can insert highlighting, use different fonts, insert pictures, password protect it, and so much more. And by the way, these people aren't paying me whatsoever. :-)

It shows up white in the daytime and it completely safe. Fragile Friendships

I have come to realize that friendships are very fragile. I’ve had a friend for many, many years, and one argument tore us apart and we haven’t spoken in over a year. The most deep and intense friendship I ever had ended very badly. I’m scared I’m going to lose my best friend because we live so far apart. I’m down to so few. It scares me. Don’t get me wrong… I’m fully capable of functioning alone… I just don’t want to. I miss the friendship I had with those people, especially the intense one. I don’t know if we could ever get that back, either. The end of our friendship was so messy, and our lives have taken drastic turns away from each other. Maybe someday.

Well, Christmas is over and I hope everyone got what they wanted. I know I did. Lol Just to name a few of the things I got: a 2nd Tivo, DSL, a Magic Bullet, a Black and Decker HomeCafe coffeemaker (the one that uses pods), new silverware, candles, and much more. All in all a great Christmas. Ray had a pretty good Christmas, too. He got a new pool cue, a glass chess set, a new tool set and tool box, the Star Wars box set, and a few other little things. He almost cried when he opened the box set.
On Christmas Eve, Ray took me, RayLynn, and Kris out in the country for a “surprise”, and it turned out to be 8 reindeer that somebody owns and we got to pet them and stuff. I have a video of it. Actually, I have a lot of videos that I took over the holiday weekend. Hopefully I’ll get them edited and put up on the internet for my friends and family to see.

My car went into the shop Monday morning so that the huge dent in the side from where that old man hit me could be fixed. My poor baby is going to be in the hands of some stranger for a whole week! The man’s insurance is taking 100% responsibility, so not only do they have to pay for all the repairs, they also have to pay for a rental car for me for the week. The first one that they gave me on Monday was a van. Granted, a brand new really nice van, but a van no less. I never felt so old in my entire life. Then this morning they switched it out with a Pontiac Vibe because I complained that I couldn’t afford the gas in a van all week. The Vibe is supposed to have really good gas mileage. We’ll see. I don’t think anything can top my manual Cavalier.

     Tuesday I received a call from the Rent-A-Center in Vandalia about an application I turned in via Monster.com in early September. I went in for an interview because he told me how much starting pay is, and it’s even more than what Cooper B-Line starts out at. So, everything went great. I took their little test to see if I was qualified, and then had an actual interview, and he invited me in the next day to have another interview with his boss. I said sure. Had that interview, thought it went pretty well, and no one has called me since. I called yesterday trying to get a hold of the first guy I interviewed with (because his boss said that the store manager, the first guy, actually got to make the final decision) but he was out to lunch. I left a message, but he didn’t get back to me. I kinda knew it was too good to be true.

     Yesterday I had to work 11-4 at Casey’s, but neither the girl who was supposed to relieve me from the register (someone I considered a friend, but now that consideration is in question) and the girl who was supposed to come in and do pizzas never showed up, so I ended up staying until 6 trying to call people to come in. The manager finally had to hire back a girl who quit a little while back to come in and make pizza. It was nuts. I was supposed to go shopping with my sister in Springfield, but she understandably had to leave without me because I didn’t know what time I was getting off. I finally did, then when she came back, we all went to the bar and had a few drinks ( I had vodka and 7up with a twist) and then I went home and had my first full night of sleep in about 3 days. We’ve all been staying up until about 3 o’clock in the morning playing cards. As a side note, I think I’m doing pretty well. I have yet to go out first (knock on wood.)

     So today, I have to make pizza from 10-2, and then my career at Casey’s is officially over. My last day before I start working at B-Line on Monday. And then later at about 4, we are all going to Six Flags. One of our friends got free tickets and is generously taking us all, we just have to drive. Fine with me. LOL

     P.S. Angie – how can you say that Adam finally got to see how unlucky you are? As far as I can tell, Adam got to see how exciting your life is! And he must be a nice guy if he emailed you to ask you if you were okay the next day! I can’t believe you never told me about this date! What happened to Wes? Love you!

     P.P.S. Today is my mom’s birthday and I’m completely broke and have no idea what to get for her. A card that says, “Dear Mom, thanks for all the money you’ve been giving me lately and the round-about gift of laundry detergent. Happy Birthday!”? Boo. Boooo!!!!

I was notified yesterday that they want to hire me at Cooper B-Line, and I’m going to take it. It’s a step up from where I am now, even if it is a risk. I can still look for another job while I’m there, and at least I know I’ll be able to pay the bills while I’m doing it. The next step: steel-toed shoes. They have some that look like tennis-shoes at Wal-Mart. Guess I’m getting a new pair of shoes!

I had an interview at Cooper B-Line in Highland yesterday. They’re looking for a Shipping Coordinator. The pay is great (a 3 dollar raise from what I’m making now), the hours are great, and the job sounds easy enough for me to do (data entry). However, Highland is about an hour away, and with the gas prices so high, that will get expensive. Also, there’s no guarantee that it will be permanent. If I just do an average job, and they don’t really like me, there’s a chance I’ll get laid off. I don’t know what to do. If I stay at Casey’s, I won’t be able to pay the bills because they don’t pay well enough and the hours are shitty. If they want to hire me at Cooper and I take it, what if I get laid off in a few months? I hate being an adult. I hate having to be so damn responsible. Why can’t I just lay around the house all day and do nothing? Life is so short. Why do I have to waste it making money? Can’t we all just go back to the barter and trade system? I’ll fix your computer for some groceries. LOL

I've got another job interview tomorrow. I guess I dropped off a resume at Family Video a while back, and the manager called me yesterday to ask me if I would be interested in interviewing for the Management Trainee program. I told her I'd have to think about it. Later on that night, I started thinking, "What do I have to think about? I mean, do I really want to stay at Casey's the rest of my life?" Yes, I have friends there, and I would feel bad for making them think that I would be around for a while, but it's nothing personal, you know? It's about my life. I want to BE somebody. I want to have a career. If I succeeded at the Management Trainee program, they would give me my own store. I would have to move, but is anything really tying me down to this area? Yes, my parents and my sister are here, but I hardly have any friends, and for a salary-based job and the opportunity to be somebody important, I have no problem moving. Plus, Ray said that he would go anywhere with me, so what am I waiting for, right?

My first two days at Casey's wasn't too bad, I have to admit. The people there are really nice, and they seem to like me okay so far. I made my first pizza, which didn't come out horribly, and tomorrow I'm going to learn donuts. However, I got my schedule, every day this week except for today and Wednesday I have to go in at 4 am to 8 am, go home for a few hours, and then go back from 10 am to 2 pm. Donuts in the morning, and pizza in the afternoon. This is the earliest I've ever had to wake up for a job. I'm gonna have to go to bed at 7 pm! Thank God I bought some sleeping pills a while back!

In other horrible news: I found 3 gray hairs yesterday! I'm only 22! I thought I was dealing with my stress okay, but apparently not!

I wish I could just party all day and never work.

     I had an interview at Casey’s on Monday. Afterward, the manager said I could have the job, but she’s okay with giving me 24 hours to think about it. I took the offer. Who knows what would happen in the next 24 hours, right? The next day Dr. Virgin’s Chiropractic office calls me.  They’re interested in hiring me as an assistant. I go in for another interview, but not before I called Casey’s and asked for an extra day. Teresa, the manager, said that would be fine. The interview with Dr. Virgin went great, but I made sure that he was aware that I would need to know by the next day so I could tell Casey’s yes or no. Also, I don’t want to say no to the Casey’s job, not get the assistant job, and be out of a job altogether. He said that would probably be a problem since he has more interviews on Thursday, but that he would let me know.
As you can imagine, I was extremely nervous after that since I would much rather work at Dr. Virgin’s than Casey’s. Steph came over for awhile, and then Todd came over and took Ray out to My Place (the bar) to drink and play pool. About 2 hours later, Ray called and asked me to come out. See, I normally don’t do that. I have social anxiety disorder. I don’t like crowds. I don’t like people. People don’t like me. However, since I was nervous about the whole job thing, I got ready and went out. I had about 3 beers at the bar. Well, actually, I’m not totally for sure how many I had because Ray and Todd made sure that my mug was never empty. Then Todd met this guy named Brent at the bar, and he invited the three of us over to his place to hang out and get drunk. Apparently this guy has some killer alcohol. To my own disbelief, I was like, sure, let’s go! But first, we went to Trails, yet another bar, where I had a vanilla vodka and diet Pepsi and played a game of pool with Ray. By the time we left and headed for Brent’s, I was already pretty tipsy. I’m such a lightweight. We all end up drinking this vodka I picked out of Brent’s stash that had a piece of actual wood in the bottle! This stuff was so smooth, I didn’t even need a chaser after taking a shot. I think I had 3, but it could have been more. The whole night is such a blur. I do remember the major events, though. Finding out that Brent is actually Brent Chumley, who, well, I’ll just insert this little bio I found about him:

So that’s one of the major things. The second was the fact that Todd was hanging all over me, and apparently even tried to kiss me once, according to Ray, and that really upset him. I remember him being all over me, but I’m just going to chalk it up to being single, drunk, and alone. Third was Brent asking me to design a website for him, and asking Ray to be in his band. And fourth, the big one, me puking in Brent’s bathroom… four times… I think.  LOL
Anyway, so I get up this morning, and still inebriated and hung over at the same time, I remember the whole Casey’s/Dr. Virgin’s office situation. I got highly impatient, and at about 11 I called Dr. Virgin’s for an update, and he said that he just couldn’t justify canceling the Thursday interviews.  I said that was fine, and that if he would want me to come back in for a second interview, I would. I mean, if Dr. Virgin offers me the job, I’ll just put two weeks in at Casey’s and then I’m gone. I don’t want to stay there. Not that there’s anything wrong with Casey’s…it’s just not my thing, you know. So anyway, yeah, I start at Casey’s at 9 am tomorrow.  Whoo-hoo!
Oh, and one more thing, Ray won 20 dollars in a pool tournament tonight!  Go Ray!

Monday, we got into the biggest fight of our relationship, Tuesday I got laid off a week ahead of schedule, Wednesday the water got shut off because our landlord forgot (didn’t) pay the bill, Thursday some ass-fuck old farmer hit my car in the parking lot of IGA, and yesterday Ray got his ticket. It’s 7:47pm right now. Ray’s gone with his friends. I’m at home with the cats enjoying adult beverages… please, God… the day’s almost over…

Yesterday, I made a quick run to IGA to get some soda and ice. All I take is my little card holder that has my debit card and driver’s license and what not. When I’m done, as I just finished backing out of my parking space, I look to my right, and this huge truck backs into me, lifting me up off the ground. I scream and honk, and after what seems like forever, he pulls up so I can be level with the ground again. I get out, hoping there’s no or minimal damage, but alas, a huge crater above the right passenger tire. I went to reach for my cell phone, then remembered that for the first time ever, I didn’t bring it. I’ll never make that mistake again. I went over and got the guy’s insurance and went inside Dollar General to use their phone to call the police and leave a message on the CallWave for Ray (since I couldn’t call his cell phone because it’s long distance.) The cop shows up, and while I’m waiting for the guy to write up the report, I have to listen to the old man who was driving the truck, “I just didn’t see her, and I don’t think she saw me either” over and over again. But here’s the thing, and I was to shook up then to realize it, but thankfully I did while I was on the phone with State Farm: I was done backing up and was completely perpendicular with the other parked cars when he ran into me diagonally. That means I backed out first. Unfortunately, as my State Farm agent said, it probably won’t be that they’ll put 100% of the blame on the old man because we were both backing out, it was on private property, and there weren’t any witnesses. Even if they found out that he was at fault, I’d still have to pay my $50 deductible. I just hope my rates won’t go up. I should hope not. It the fault was 50/50, it shouldn’t, or if it was all him, it shouldn’t, and I don’t see how they can put blame on me. Oh, and as I was leaving to go back home, I heard a guy yell. I looked to my right, and here was Ray, running in sandals all the way from home to make sure I was okay. Isn’t he sweet? And I was okay. So is the car, except for the huge crater of course, but at least it’s not on the door. We do have to drive to the Cardinals game tonight with a huge embarrassing dent in the car, though. Can anything else go wrong in the next few days?

I’ve got it. You know what I really need? I need a job that I can do at home. Like over the internet or something. That way, I can stay here so Ray can use the car to find a job. Yes! It’s perfect! Oh, wait. Most internet jobs are scams. Ad-typers and the like. If anyone knows of any stay at home jobs that are actually for real, let me know!

I hate stress. Who doesn’t, right? Well, yesterday, they ended my temporary receptionist job at Schutt Sports a week early. Now I don’t have a job. I’m up for a permanent position there, but I thought I would find out about that before my temp job was over, you know? But no, of course not. They better call me ASAP or I’m screwed. The temp agency (Manpower) is looking for another job for me, but who knows how long that will be! Could be weeks! I’m screwed.

My first venture into Flash since High School... and I don't remember much from class. Let me know what you think. I'd really like the input.

I'm just trying to brush up on a few things since I just registered for classes yesterday at Lincoln Land. So far I'm registered for Computer Systems and Business Apps., and Computer Literacy for Graphic. I'm on a waiting list for Two-Dimensional Design, and I'm waiting to see if I can take Intro to Web Design now, or if I have to wait until next semester, because the Computer Literacy is a prerequisite for that. If I can't, I'll be registering for Intro to XHTML. Whew! Also, I don't know what class I'll be taking if I don't get into Design. Anyway, I'm going for a certification in Web Design. I've always had a passion for it, and I'm so excited to learn everything! The only problem is, I applied for financial aid, and if I can't get full funding, I may not be able to go. Cross your fingers!

I'm looking through some extensions and themes to install into Firefox. Extensions I've installed:
BlogThis - You can right-click a page and in the menu you have the option to send a link to Blogger. I don't know if I like it or not. If you blog something while in IE, it sends a screenshot that appears on your blog. I don't know if this does the same thing, but I'm pretty sure it's just a link. I guess I'll find out when I try it.
Foxy Tunes - Control iTunes or WMP or whatever inside Firefox. I love it.
ieview - Adds "view page in IE" to the content menu. Handy, especially since I know one site, Wal-Mart Benefits, doesn't allow Firefox (stupid ******* ******-*******!)
StumbleUpon - "channelsurf" best-reviewed sites. Haven't tried it yet. We'll see...

I just found out the dates for the Tourgasm tour (featuring Dane Cook....and others) and he's not going to be anywhere close to me. 4 1/2 hours actually is the closest. Yeah.... I'm considering it. LOL

Ray and I went and saw The Ring 2 last night. There were a few parts that were scary, but not nearly as good as the first one. Was kind of disappointed, but oh well. It was still fun. We went to this theater in our new hometown. It's 5 bucks for a person to get in, and a soda and a bag of popcorn is included in the price. They've also got a balcony. It's very awesome. Too bad they get movies, like, 2 months after everyone else.

My latest project has been to figure out a way to make the shows I get off of TivoToGo do whatever I want. Currently, I can't do anything with them. There's a way to edit commercials and whatnot, but I can't figure it out... but I will. LOL Also, if anyone knows how to get Mobile PhoneTools for Motorola cell phones to work, please let me know. That was my last project and I got so frustrated with it that I just quit before figuring it out.

Well, Ray and I finally did it! We got married March 12th, 2005 at 7 PM at the Radiant Life Worship Center in Litchfield, IL. It was beautiful... absolutely beautiful. My mother and her friends did such a great job decorating the church. The attention to detail was amazing. Ray's vows were moving. I managed not to fall the whole evening... It was perfect. :-)

We moved into our new apartment. I just got the internet (dial-up :-( ), so I may put up some pictures later. Other than that, I'm just glad to at least be able to check my email and my bank balance at my own home instead of driving to a different town to use my mom's comp.

Do you ever feel like giving up? I don't mean in the suicide way or running away from home way or anything, but just not trying so hard? If you spend every day trying to make every one else happy, but you never make any progress, why try anymore? Sometimes I feel like I'm constantly banging my head against a brick wall. If I keep doing it, maybe, someday, I'll make a hole, or at least an indentation, but god does it hurt during the process. I'd feel so much better if someone would give me a tool to help me, but I don't think that kind of tool exists, and that just makes me want to give up even more. The only thing that keeps me from giving up is knowing that after I finish, I can stop. I can relax. I can be myself again. I guess if I just bang my head a little harder each day, I'll get to stop even sooner.
